Learning does not have to stop after high school. Adults can continue growing. You may want to improve socially, get along better with people at home or work, improve your reading or writing, or develop AAC for communication.

You may need functional communication or other positive behavior supports. An adult eventually has to show people who are not relatives what they like, and hate. Autism is lifelong, and needs change. Speech therapy can support communication and social skills for autistic adults.

TO START SPEECH THERAPY THROUGH NJ DDD ADULT BUDGETS

For NJ DDD adults with “self-direction” budgets or Support Coordinators, here is the process.
It can go as quickly as 3 weeks but may take longer.

  1. Reach out to Laura Weinberg to check if her therapy and her availability in-person is a match.

  2. Consider teletherapy or office visits if it does not match.

  3. Contact your physician to get a prescription for speech therapy. Most agencies require that.

  4. Have your Support Coordinator send the ISP to Laura Weinberg and email her.

  5. Work out with the Support Coordinator changes to the ISP for the authorizations (SDR).

  6. Reconfirm the schedule, and get started with therapy.
